Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating, represents a national scale used to determine a building’s risk of catching on fire due to bushfires. A BAL rating is used in the assessment of constructing buildings in areas which are likely to experience bushfires. This is the average radiant heat (in kilowatts per square metre) that will be experienced at the house when under the specified Bushfire Attack Level. Calculating a BAL rating requires an accredited bushfire consultant, who considers factors such as land slope, distance from and type of nearby vegetation to model the BAL.
