FHOG

« Back to Glossary Index

The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) scheme was introduced on 1 July 2000 to offset the effect of the GST on home ownership and previously known as the First Home Buyers Grant. It is a national scheme funded by the states and territories and administered under their legislation.

Under the scheme, a one-off grant is payable to first home owners that satisfy all eligibility criteria. This is generally arranged via a lender to be used towards the purchase of a property. Eligibility and criteria vary across State and Territories and are reviewed regularly. For the latest information see our First Home Buyers Page.
