Holding Deposit

« Back to Glossary Index

A holding deposit is a sum of money that buyers pay to a vendor, usually 0.25% of the purchase price, but can be negotiable. The cooling off period commences after the holding deposit is paid. If the purchaser doesn’t proceed with the purchase, the holding deposit is usually forfeited to the vendor.
