Mortgage

« Back to Glossary Index

A legal agreement between you and your lender. This agreement sets out that you’ll be lent money at an interest rate in exchange for the lender having an interest (also known as a mortgage) over your property or asset as security. The mortgage is removed once the debt is fully repaid. If the borrower fails to meet the repayment terms, the lender may take possession of the security.
