AEP

« Back to Glossary Index

Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) is a measure of the likelihood of flooding to occur. A 1% AEP flood is a flood which has a 1% chance of occurring in any year. It is commonly known as a 1 in 100 year flood. This doesn’t mean it will only occur every 100 years, but is very unlikely to occur in any given year.
