A flat is typically a medium density residential building, often under a strata title. Flats tend to be older buildings with anywhere from 2 – 30+ units. A flat is generally a low rise building with 2 – 5 floors and often without lifts. Although lacking in some modern conveniences, flats tend to have high ceilings, larger rooms and can feel more like a house than an apartment. These features make them a very popular housing option, particularly when renovated. The term flat is less commonly used these days and most people simply call them ‘units.’
